From rescue to a new life – Egypt

August 14, 2026

For many years, Egypt has been one of those places where the need to rescue animals never ends.

When we first arrived here, we started with individual stories. One animal that needed immediate help. One shelter that was running out of food, medicine and money for a vet visit. People trying every day to save dozens, sometimes hundreds of animals, with almost nothing at their disposal.

Behind each of these rescues stood our coordinators. They were the ones who took the reports, checked every single one, chose the cases that could not wait, and made sure that help actually reached the animal rather than getting lost along the way. They spent hours on the phone with clinics, arranged transport, followed the progress of every treatment and stayed with the most difficult cases right to the very end. It is quiet, exhausting work, done day after day, and it is thanks to this work that hundreds of animals in Egypt received a second chance.

Because in Egypt, help never meant simply saving one dog or taking one horse off the street. It meant hundreds of kilograms of food. Support for shelters and private carers looking after huge numbers of animals. Treatment, tests, operations and vet visits. Animals taken off the streets and driven to clinics. And also adoptions, thanks to which dogs and cats left Egypt and began a completely new life in Europe – in Spain, Germany and Poland.

The change can also be seen in the animals themselves.

A dog who came to us trembling, with his ribs showing, terrified of every movement of a hand – and a few weeks later is walking calmly on a lead, tail wagging again. A cat who would not have survived another night, and who is now asleep curled up in a safe home. This is what our work looks like when it succeeds. Not numbers on a page, but a living animal who feels safe for the first time.

But in Egypt, it is about horses too.

The pyramid horses, whose stories we have been showing the world for years. These animals worked far beyond their strength, were often injured and exhausted, and were deprived of proper care. Our team managed to take some of them away. They were taken to a clinic, began treatment and experienced for the first time something they had hardly ever known: a life without constant work and pain. A horse who once collapsed under a heavy load now stands in the shade, recovering, eating and resting. That moment means everything.

That is exactly why we are there.

Over time, however, we understood that rescuing one animal after another would never be enough. So we began to speak louder. We showed what lies behind the postcard image of Egypt. We filmed it. We published it. We ran campaigns and collected signatures for petitions. Our stories reached millions of people, and more and more of them began to ask difficult questions about animals used in tourism and the thousands of stray dogs and cats.

And change began.

For us, this is a huge moment, but it is not the end of our mission. Quite the opposite. Because behind every change in the law there must be concrete action. And behind the big numbers there are still individual animals. One horse who has to get to a clinic. One dog found on the street. One cat who needs an operation. One shelter that will soon run out of food.

That is exactly why we are still in Egypt.

Our coordinators continue to support those working on the ground. We continue to fund treatment. We continue to help rescue animals and find them new homes. We continue to show the world what should no longer be accepted.

We saw animals at a moment when their lives seemed to have no future. And later we saw them again: safe, healed, surrounded by care. Sometimes thousands of kilometres from where their story began.

This is what this mission is about. Not only rescue, but also giving a chance at a completely new life.

None of this would be possible without you. Every kilogram of food, every rescue, every horse saved also carries your name – right alongside the people who made it all a reality on the ground.

We know how much still needs to change. But we have seen with our own eyes how much can be achieved when good people do not look away. Egypt has taught us that nothing is hopeless. That is why we will not stop. Not now, not ever. As long as there is even one animal we can help, we will be there – and so will you.
