❗️Persi. 43°C fever, only 2 kg and blood test results so low that the machine cannot read them❗️

Persi arrived at Our shelter in Spain with a temperature reaching 43°C. She was struggling to breathe, drooling heavily, and her condition did not allow for even a moment’s delay. Her condition did not allow for a moment’s delay, so Alba immediately took Persi to the veterinary clinic. Today she is still there. Hospitalized, under constant medical supervision and connected to treatment that is meant to give her body at least some strength for the continued fight.

Just putting Persi on the scale is enough to see the extent of her emaciation. An adult cat of her size should weigh around five kilograms. Persi weighs only two. Under her fur, there are practically only bones left. She is extremely malnourished and dangerously dehydrated, and a powerful infection is burdening a body that has almost no reserves left. Her leukocytes, neutrophils, and other blood parameters are so disturbed that the equipment cannot even detect some of them. Not because the test failed. Their values have dropped so low.

Doctors are conducting extensive diagnostics to find the source of the infection and choose treatment before Persi’s body stops coping with it. Further tests, intensive hydration, medication, temperature and breathing control, and regular blood parameter checks are needed. Every change matters, because with such a severe condition, even a slight deterioration can take away what had been previously stabilized.

However, infection and emaciation are not all. Persi also suffered a serious head injury, and her jaw is severely displaced. All injuries are concentrated in this area. She could have been hit by a car or intentionally struck. Regardless of how the injury occurred, it was not a light impact. Her head sustained immense force, and repairing her jaw may require a difficult and complicated operation.

First, however, Persi must regain at least some of her strength. Operating on a two-kilogram, extremely dehydrated and malnourished cat with dramatic blood test results carries enormous risk. Therefore, doctors must act in stages. Control the infection, hydrate the body, improve parameters, and only then assess when and how the jaw can be safely addressed. This will not be one visit or one medication. Persi faces hospitalization, intensive treatment, and subsequent decisions made according to how her body responds to help.

In Spain, we help animals that come to Alba when their condition has long ceased to be trivial. Persi is one of them. She arrived at the shelter at the brink of endurance, and instead of a moment’s rest, she immediately began the most important fight of her life. Now, every day in the clinic means tests, medications, fluids, care, and further costs. But it also means another day that she might not have gotten without this help.

Today, Persi is not yet fighting for a comfortable bed or a new home. She is fighting for breath, a normal temperature, better blood test results, and every gram her body can regain. She is fighting to survive long enough for doctors to fix her jaw and give her something more than mere survival.

Help us keep Persi in this fight. She has two kilograms of emaciated body, but she is still trying with all her being to stay with us. Now she needs people who won’t let her give up.
