Luka

❗️Luka never had a choice. Now he urgently needs people who will choose his life. A 1500 zł deposit by tomorrow!

Today Luka stands before you. In a horse’s life, even the most important change can begin with a completely ordinary human conversation. A price, a date, a pick-up address.

For one it’s the end of the matter, for the other a whole life turned upside down. The horse will go together with his attachment, his habits, his memory of familiar voices and places.

He takes all of this with him, even though only he is counted in the settlement.

Luka stands by a person and doesn’t move. It’s so easy to assume that because he stands there, he agrees to everything. To another place, another owner, another journey. Meanwhile a horse needs time to learn even the way to the water, the sounds of a new stable, the animals behind the fence. A person can change all of this for him in one afternoon. Make a decision and go back to their own business. Luka stays in the new place with the whole task of learning life from scratch.

That’s how easy it is to sell an animal. It’s much harder to then build its whole world anew.

And we want to do that for Luka. We want to have time to get to know him. To find out which horse he will stay closest to, whether he will quickly trust his carers, or need distance for a long time. To let him settle into a place from which he won’t have to leave again in a moment. Because constant dependence on people also has a good side: when you finally end up with the right people, you can lean on them for the rest of your life.

For Luka, people can finally become predictable. Come at a familiar time. Notice that the horse has left his food, is putting a foot down differently, has moved away from the herd. React before a small problem becomes suffering. That is the kind of presence we want for him. Also in a few years’ time, when the emotions of this fundraiser have faded and Luka still needs daily care.

Today we are looking for people who will help us provide it. Right here, among you.

We need 1500 zł for the deposit for Luka. Still ahead of us are the full buyout, transport and care. Each of these stages has to be paid for. We are working to make sure that Luka’s road from the dealer leads to us, but first we have to raise this deposit. That’s why we are asking for help now, while we can still act. We would so much like the next news about him to be a short: we’re going to get Luka.

You know the feeling when, after a long wait, you can finally breathe a sigh of relief. With buyouts it only comes after everything is done. When the horse is already on site, gets hay and starts looking around his new surroundings. People are still phoning, passing on messages, checking documents. He can already get on with eating. And in that ordinariness lies the whole meaning of what was so hard to fight for before.

That is the moment we want to reach with Luka.

After that there will still be a lot of work. A check-up, getting to know his needs, finding his place in the herd. Preparing for winter and daily care. We take all of this into account when we ask you to save another horse. Leaving the dealer has to be followed by people who will stay for longer. We want to be those people for Luka.

And today we ask you to take part in his departure. For 5, 10 or 20 zł. To share the appeal and reach another person who will add their part. So many times you have managed, with small donations, to build a future for an animal that no one had intended to give it before.

Luka won’t know who paid for his journey. Maybe one day you will meet him among our horses, call him by name, and he won’t even come over to you, busy with his horse friends.

May we live to see such a meeting. You, us and Luka, who will finally be able to choose where he wants to stay.
