Lobo could be the pride of any herd. White, with a dark head, a long mane, and pink nostrils. One of those ponies that makes a person smile involuntarily. It’s easy to imagine him having his place in a pasture, a horse friend, and a person who comes in the evening to check if he’s doing well. In this story, there was a person who wanted to buy him. There was no one who wanted to take care of him.

Because Lobo was guaranteed admiration. Care, no longer.

He was bought as a gift. Then he became a nuisance and for several months ended up in a neighbor’s shed. Finally, he returned to the dealers. Along the way, people’s ideas for his life changed. Lobo still needed the same things: food, a place, companionship, help with his sick eyes. So little, when you list it in one sentence. So much, when you actually have to get up in the morning and take care of it.

His eyes require diagnosis. Another dealer noticed the problem and decided to quickly get rid of the pony. Lobo might look like a dream come true, but a vet, examinations, and treatment have their price. And then the admiration suddenly fades. What remains is a horse that needs care. What remains is responsibility, and no one wants to leave with that.

Now Lobo is waiting to be bought out. If we don’t secure him, this path will end in slaughter.

I would like Lobo to one day have his place in our herd. So that we get to know his habits, check what’s happening with his eyes, and can take care of him as he needs. So that the next news about him concerns his arrival, first acquaintances, a vet’s visit. Ordinary matters that today are his entire future.
