Poland, a country of hussar traditions, sends many thousands of horses to slaughter every year.

And even though it’s not there, he bravely fights with the thick rope, with the whip whistling behind him, and with the lack of hope.

Because he, Czupurek, has already been through a lot.

He is an ordinary pony, like thousands, or perhaps millions, in the world. He has no extraordinary story.

He won’t captivate crowds with an eloquent photo. Crowds of ecologists won’t come to the barn where he stands today. There will be no demonstrations. Practically no one knows that Czupurek is waiting for death here.

And after the fact, no one will know either.

For a very simple reason.
Nobody cares.
Seriously.

There are thousands of horses on portals. Most are much prettier than Czupurek. And they see. Probably with better lineage and more promising.

Czupurek’s skills are also rather rustic. And horses from ads are not lame like Czupurek.

You can see for yourselves that Czupurek’s chances have always been slim.

Apparently, one day a farmer called the trader. He asked how much he would get for his horse. He called back a few days later. Together with his wife, they decided to buy another one.

They will sell Czupurek.
They will buy another one.
And something will be left over. And that’s it.

Three minutes of conversation and it was over. That’s how long it takes to decide about life and death here.

No national drama.
No grand words.
Just the way things are.
