❗️RUFUS. Almost without fur. With bleeding skin and pain with every step. Today we are fighting for him❗️
For several weeks, Rufus was falling apart on the street. His fur had almost completely disappeared. His skin was cracking, bleeding, and covered in scabs. His eyes were matted with purulent discharge, and among the extensive lesions, there were also bite wounds. Despite this, every day he had to get up and keep going. Get food. Find a place for the night. Survive in a body that, with each week, had less and less strength, less healthy skin, and more and more pain. When he was finally caught and taken into care, he was extremely exhausted and almost completely bald. Scabies and severe inflammation covered almost his entire body.

Rufus is seriously ill, but help makes sense. We can treat his skin, eyes, and wounds. We can also manage the pain that accompanies him with every step. And that is why we want to try to give him a chance. We are Centaurus. For over 20 years, we have been rescuing horses, but during this time, hundreds of other farm and wild animals have also come under our care. We have helped the large ones and the very small ones. Those close to humans and those we usually pass from a distance. Because for us, every species matters, and every life has meaning. Today, this campaign is for Rufus. It is to him that we want to give a chance for treatment, pain management, and recovery to the extent his body allows.
However, we discovered the worst only when Rufus tried to take a few steps. He moved with great difficulty. The joints of both front paws were unnaturally enlarged and deformed. X-rays revealed advanced degenerative disease in both limbs, especially the left one. Serious changes affected the carpal joints and finger joints. This was not a fresh injury or the result of one bad day. The degenerations had been developing for a long time. For weeks, Rufus walked the streets on paws where every movement meant constant pain. The diseased skin was therefore only what could be seen immediately. Beneath it lay another drama, deeply inscribed in his joints. If you can, look beyond the lack of fur. That is where part of his suffering lies, which no photo can show.
Try for a moment to see this street through his eyes. An almost naked body without fur protection. Skin cracking and bleeding with every movement. Eyes that are difficult to open due to purulent discharge. And front paws that hurt every time he has to move for food or find a place to rest. Rufus could not stop his life for the duration of his illness. The street did not bring him medicine, did not prepare a bed, and did not provide a bowl. Every day it demanded further movement from him, although his body was increasingly loudly saying that it had no more strength to draw from. Today, you can respond to what he did not receive from the world for weeks.
Blood tests also revealed anemia and leukocytosis. His body was simultaneously fighting parasites, extensive inflammation, wounds, eye infection, and chronic pain. He needed long, multi-directional treatment: antiparasitic therapy, skin and eye treatment, wound dressing, therapeutic baths, supportive medications, and constant pain relief. He underwent further blood tests, X-rays, and an orthopedic consultation. Each stage revealed another problem that needed to be addressed immediately. And this is where we need you. Because without help, even the best treatment plan remains just a plan. And today, we would very much like to continue to be able to help Rufus.

Behind the current therapy are already more bills, but they are not for a single visit or a single procedure. It’s every bath that cleanses his wounded skin. Every medication given for parasites and inflammation. Every eye drop, dressed wound, performed examination, and day when he doesn’t have to endure all the pain without help. It’s also further treatment for his joints, which cannot simply be repaired and forgotten about the disease. Rufus will need check-ups, painkillers, and care adapted to the changes he has lived with for far too long. For you, a payment can be one short gesture. For him, it will turn into a specific medicine, another examination, and the next day with less pain.
We will not give him back the weeks spent on the street. We will not reverse the degenerations that have managed to destroy his front paws. However, we can make sure that the coming days will not look the same. That his skin will begin to heal, his eyes will stop filling with pus, and the pain will finally be controlled. Rufus does not need one person to do everything for him. He needs many people who will do as much as they can. If you contribute 10, 20, or 50 PLN today, you will become part of his treatment and the change we are fighting for him.

If you can, join the campaign for Rufus today. Stay with him together with us and help him through the treatment. We don’t promise a miracle. We promise that we will use every opportunity to make his skin start healing, his pain become less, and every next step no longer be a fight with his own body.
