When she stopped giving birth to puppies, she was thrown onto the street❗️

For years, Roxy was only valuable to humans when she could give birth. Subsequent litters meant more money, and her body was meant to work as long as it could still be exploited. When she stopped bringing profit, she received no peaceful place, no care, and no gratitude for everything that was taken from her. She was abandoned. Overnight, she found herself on the street, alone, hungry, and increasingly weak. For many weeks, she wandered without help, until her body began to succumb to exhaustion. She had no strength to defend herself when other dogs attacked her. Deep, painful wounds were left on her muzzle. One eye was severely damaged. Her ribs and spine began to show so clearly under her skin, as if her body had used up everything it had just to keep her alive for one more day.

It is in Albania that for many months, together with our befriended activists, we have been trying to change such stories. We show you dogs and cats that most people would never have known, were it not for the individuals who go out onto the streets every day, look for animals in need, and fight for every single life. Thanks to you, many of these animals have received treatment, care, and a chance for a new beginning.

Albania has been struggling with a huge problem of animal homelessness for years. Tens of thousands of dogs live on the streets there. It might seem that in a place where so many animals fight for survival every day, no one would bring more into the world. Unfortunately, the reality is different. Puppy mills still operate, where dogs are treated solely as a means to make money. For years, they give birth to litter after litter, and when their bodies are no longer able to bring profit, they very often end up exactly where thousands of other animals do. On the street.

Roxy also ended up this way.

When our befriended activists took her to the veterinary clinic, everyone hoped that the worst was behind her.

Unfortunately, the test results showed something completely different.

Severe anemia.

Leishmaniasis.

A body ravaged by years of exploitation, hunger, and disease.

Today, Roxy needs specialized treatment, medication, proper nutrition, and constant veterinary care. The costs of this fight can reach up to 1500–2000 dollars. For a small organization, this is a huge challenge, but after everything Roxy has been through, no one doubted that she had to be fought for.

There is something else that probably moves us the most.

Roxy has not turned away from people.

Despite everything she has been through, she still approaches. She still looks people in the eye. She still licks hands, as if she believes that somewhere, that one person is waiting for her, who won’t want to profit from her. Who won’t expect more puppies from her. Who will simply let her be a dog.

And it is for such a future that we want to fight today.

Not for a few more months of survival.

Not for a temporary improvement.

For a life where she will never have to earn anything again.
