Leo’s body is swollen. You can hear him whimpering, you can see that he doesn’t want to eat and that the back part of his body has been seriously injured. But a photo won’t show us whether there has been bleeding under the skin. It won’t tell us whether his ribs are intact, what has happened to his hind leg and how serious the injury to his back is. Nor will it explain why Leo opens his mouth, shakes his head and then for a while can’t close it. All of this has to be shown by tests. And that is exactly why we can’t stop at putting in a cannula and giving fluids. They help keep his body going, but they don’t treat the effects of the beating.

Just a week ago Leo looked healthy. Our people saw him alone on one of the streets, but he was moving normally and had no visible injuries. It seemed that his mother was somewhere nearby, so they went to get food instead of taking the puppy away from the place where she might be looking for him. When a few days later they found Leo again, he was already lying there in pain and swollen. Local residents told them that he had been left without his mother and that he had been beaten with a stick across his back, body and hind legs. He was taken from there immediately. Now every possible injury needs to be checked, the pain brought under control and treatment started according to what the diagnostics show. If surgery is necessary, we must prepare Leo for that too. If the treatment takes a long time, we can’t stop it after a few days just because more costs appear.

We need 3000 zł not for one visit or one pre-planned procedure. This amount is meant to let us start full diagnostics, stabilise Leo, give him fluids and the medicines he needs, and cover the next stages of treatment. We can’t yet list all the procedures, because the test results will decide them. But we can already say one thing: with suspected fractures and internal injuries, help will be expensive, and the time needed for treatment may be long. Leo must get everything he needs, even if his road to health turns out to be much harder than we can predict today.

This Saturday, let’s stop for him. Let’s do one joint campaign and raise 3000 zł, so that help for Leo doesn’t end where the bigger expenses begin. We ask you for 10 or 20 zł and to share his story.
