BELLA. She survived panleukopenia. Now we are fighting for the life the illness has left her.

Of the whole litter, only Bella was left. One small black-and-white kitten who wasn’t expected to survive even her first night at the clinic. Panleukopenia was taking one kitten after another, and when Bella was admitted to hospital, nobody dared to say she would be all right. She was in a state where practically every next hour counted. And yet in the morning she was still there. Then came another day. And another. Bella survived. But sometimes winning against an illness doesn’t yet mean the end of the fight. Panleukopenia went away, but it left its mark on her nervous system.

Today Bella lives with neurological damage. Her movements can be uncoordinated, her body doesn’t always react the way it should, and simply walking a few steps can look completely different from a healthy kitten. But that doesn’t mean nothing more can be done. Bella is very young, and that gives hope that with rehabilitation, further treatment and regular work, some of the symptoms can be reduced, her mobility improved and her everyday life simply made easier.

Spain is just the place where this story happened. Because animals like her aren’t saved with one photo or one visit. First there is the fight for life, then comes the moment when you have to face the consequences of what the body has been through. And that is exactly where Bella is today. No longer on the brink of death, but still very far from the end of treatment. Ahead of her are rehabilitation, check-ups, further care and all the work to regain as much mobility as possible.

We can’t promise you that Bella will ever regain full mobility. Nobody can say today how far rehabilitation and treatment will take her. But her life doesn’t have to be perfect to be good. We can do a great deal to help Bella control her body better, move more easily and gain more independence with every passing week. She is only two months old, and it is precisely this young body that gives us hope that there is still a lot she can achieve.

That is why we are asking you for help not just for a cat that survived. We are asking for help for Bella, who after this victory still needs people by her side. Treatment saved her life. Rehabilitation may decide what that life will look like from here on.
