Nicpon

Nicpoń is a country horse. He spent his entire life in the countryside. He learned the country life and how to survive. He worked in the stable, drove the farmer’s children, and was sometimes hired out for festivals. But Nicpoń had an accident. He was frightened by a car, the dealer recounts. One day, he simply yanked the carriage into a ditch when a large delivery truck appeared on the road.

The carriage overturned, and the children fell out. I assume there was no adult supervising, because from what the dealer says, it’s a well-behaved pony. And I don’t know why people assume well-behaved ponies don’t have a right to be scared. The dealer says the horse arrived to him that day lying down. It was so whipped that it was barely alive. He thought that maybe if he got it fixed, he could sell it well. But the horse is afraid of being touched and afraid of anyone approaching it. It must be terribly traumatized. I don’t know how badly they beat it at the time, or if they even knew why, but they certainly didn’t give it the right to cause that accident. To me, it’s foolish to let small children out in a small carriage on a street where cars drive. It’s clearly human error. Not to mention harnessing ponies to such carriages – because that’s not what they were created for, but for love, grazing in meadows, and perhaps taking beautiful photographs that will hang on the walls of our homes. But of course, people have different views on the necessity of animals being useful.

But back to Nicpoń – that’s what they named him after the incident. The wounds have healed somewhat, but the customer was gone. The holidays are over, autumn is coming soon. Or maybe it’s already autumn, by the time you read this. A few days have passed since we were here to take photos and get to know this animal after the ordeal the human put him through. Since he doesn’t have a customer, the dealer kept him, but he won’t be around for much longer. The decision has been made that Nicpoń is going to slaughter. We’d like to spare his life and not discuss whether he deserves it based on his accident.
