Our story
April 8, 2024

Today is about GZIK❗️ and electricity.

And it’s not about his kicking the current.

But let’s start from the beginning. I called him Gzik because he reminded me of the countryside, such a warm, nice countryside. My friend immediately joked that when he was last in the countryside, he ate a potato with gzik by the fire. And he started reminiscing about how it used to be when he was a kid. I looked at this photo of Gzik, who grew up in this village, such an old village, with some grandpa. He spent his whole life there and probably didn’t have it bad, but lean years came. Grandpa only had money for potatoes, not enough for cheese.

The trader says that he called him 3 times, but each time the old man added that he would think about it and he swallowed his tears. But some illness came, I don’t know exactly what it was. And the desperate man called and briefly asked for Gzik to be taken away. Sometimes it’s like this, people want to get rid of animals and they do it easily, and sometimes it’s very difficult. Sometimes they don’t want to give them away at all, but they have no choice. We try not to judge, because every story is different. But those stories that tell about great love for animals and at the same time fate that forced people to sell them are especially striking to us.

Because we know that in our reality, older people simply don’t have money. Especially in villages, if they don’t have land. And it’s hard to expect them not to buy medicines, but to keep the animal. I don’t know, I have no judgment in myself. I only have a photo of Gzik, who stares at the camera with his black eyes and doesn’t understand at all what happened to his village life with the older man. And what happened is that it ended.

We have to collect $486 and pay a deposit for GZIK. We have 72 hours. But that’s not the end. Because I’ve told you many times that rescue begins where the animal comes to us. Wherever GZIK goes, there is a center. We have three main centers, as you know. One is Przemkowski Landscape Park and a 400-hectare reserve. The second is our animal farm in Szczedrzykowice. And the third is the center in Modlimów – 140 hectares of paradise with forest groves and a pond for our animals. It’s a real paradise on the Baltic Sea.

The problem is that the humdrum of life can drive you into the ground. And I’ll tell you what it’s all about and why we’re collecting for electricity. Namely, in Modlimów, the electricity supplier treated us as a functioning farm, i.e. as a company. Despite the fact that we filed complaints and grievances many times, no one wanted to talk to us. And so the foundation, which has 1,500 horses to support and thanks to you can do many fantastic things, has to collect several thousand every month to pay the electricity bills.

It’s typically cold and bureaucratic, and we know that everyone in Poland – especially these days – has these big bills, but imagine that it’s a dozen or so tons of oats or huge invoices for a vet. And while it’s clear to me that this has to be paid, changing the tariff would be a huge nod in our direction. Or rather, normality, because we’re doing a great thing in this area together with you. We’re creating a place that becomes a pilgrimage for animal lovers from all over the country. And for all this we then get a hefty bill, because of which we’re sometimes barely able to make ends meet.

A bill for several thousand złoty for electricity. And what is happening on site? Well, there is a small house, old, for the manager, with an old furnace. We do not use electricity for heating. In addition, there are two residential containers – ordinary ones – for boys from the Philippines, who live in them all year round. And one container with a shower and toilet for them. The center is not specially lit and we do not use any additional things apart from a crusher. And for this we pay several thousand each month.

It drives me crazy, but these are the realities we have to live in, because we won’t be able to move our horses to the Caucasus mountains. And believe me, we’re boiling with blood every month. And there are months when we manage to find a sponsor for it, but this month it’s a complete disaster. The fences in which the animals live on these 140 hectares are also connected to electricity – so that they don’t get out through them, so that they don’t press against them. We can’t imagine that they would cut off this electricity.

Because first of all – the fences will stop working. Secondly – the crusher, which crushes oats for horses and makes it easier to digest, will stop working. And people are also important, because they will simply freeze at night without electricity. Generally, I don’t think I need to explain – we won’t be able to function. So today I wanted to ask you for help.

We plan to eventually install photovoltaics there, so that our horses would be completely independent. Our animals would be independent of whether we have money for electricity or not. And from the energy company. But this is an investment of about $ 64,000. Maybe you have someone you know who would like to fund it for the foundation today. Although the chances of that happening are slim. Such a miracle would be the best event of this year if it happened. So we will definitely collect money for photovoltaics to power the entire center. But for now, it is what it is.

We are begging you for help. Us and Gzik. And the guys would be begging too if they were to freeze to death.
