Adas

Much less than usual, because that’s how much we managed to negotiate. Although we’re not negotiating experts. Adas has a story we don’t know and will probably remain a mystery to us forever. When we hear truly powerful stories, we always share them with you because we want you to know the profound experiences these animals we’re trying to help have endured. But aren’t stories like these, which end up in the slaughterhouse, inhumane and dramatic enough to not need embellishing? Adas is blind in one eye, that much I can tell you. He’s been with the dealer for a few months now. He said he wanted to do something different with him, but eventually, every customer realized Adaś couldn’t see, and the dealer decided to give up because the upkeep costs would soon exceed the horse’s value.

There will be no firecrackers, no scandal, no one fighting, no one calling anyone names, no police, no cameras, no brawl. The entire time we were there, Adas stood and watched us in his silence. And it’s this silence that I’d like to share with you today. Because sometimes everything is hidden within it, and sometimes it’s that silence that brings a tear to your eye. Even if there’s no hysteria or despair, it’s the kind of tear you remember for the rest of your life, because you feel like the world you exist in isn’t what you wanted. And that in this world of yours, things are happening that you don’t consent to, and certainly not in the way that Adas is passing away.
