Our story
Blue
February 17, 2026

Updated 19/02/2026

Blue passed away.

Despite immediate action and fighting every hour, his condition was too serious. He needed an urgent blood transfusion. He was struggling with severe anemia and acute prerenal failure. His kidneys were in very poor condition. His body was failing.

Everything possible was done.

But his body was too damaged to win this fight.

Thank you for your help.

We fought for him until the very end.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Spain smells of oranges and warm stone. Barcelona gleams in the sun, tourists glide through the narrow streets, cameras flash, and glasses clink against each other in the southern light.

In the photos, everything is golden. But a few blocks away lies a galgo whose hunting season has just ended.
In another city, someone gives up a corgi because “it no longer fits the lifestyle.”

On the outskirts, cats give birth in ruins, in a silence unheard of in travel agency brochures. This isn’t a black-and-white country. It’s a land of contradictions.

Immense injustice and immense hearts at the same time. Because where the system fails, people emerge.

Like our Alba.

Alba has represented us in Spain for many years and leads rescue operations under the banner of our foundation. You met her at our Open Days, if you’ve been there.

She was the one who found Blue – exhausted, weak, and subdued.

Not dramatically injured. Silently dying. Tests revealed serious kidney problems. His body was poisoned by its own toxins. His blood count was dramatic.

Immediate hospitalization was required. IV drips. A blood transfusion was needed to give him the strength to fight.

Blue is in the clinic today. He’s breathing thanks to machines, fluids, and the doctors’ vigilance. But a clinic isn’t a metaphor—it’s an invoice. And Alba and local volunteers don’t have the money to pay for it.

Where they operate, there are no sponsors. There are no tourist budgets or generous businesses. There are people with huge hearts and empty pockets. We contribute funds from Poland. They contribute hands, time, and sleepless nights. For years, we’ve been running the “Animals Without Borders” campaign, because under one sky, there’s no other suffering.

And right there, in that sun that doesn’t always warm, is Blue. A cat with a name like the color of the sky, but with a body that fights for each day. This isn’t a “slight indisposition.”

This is acute kidney failure, a fight for vital parameters, for the kidneys to start working again. These are decisions made hour by hour. This is a transfusion that buys time. This is an IV that gives hope. Blue didn’t make it onto a postcard from Barcelona. He ended up on a hospital bed, where the bill is mounting faster than his strength.

We’ve seen stories like this before.
Stories without negotiation.
Without the “sense of investing.”
And yet they survived.
Because someone donated $30.
Because someone else donated $10.
Because someone believed that life doesn’t end with a cost-benefit table.

Thanks to you, we’ve already saved hundreds of dogs and cats as part of our operations in Spain. Each of them had their own critical moment. Each of them once stood exactly where Blue stands today. We are incredibly grateful for that.
For every decision not to look the other way.

Today, Blue is fighting for his life.
And we truly don’t want him to lose just because he ran out of money.
