Berta is powerful, huge, weighing almost a ton. Humans were useful to her for most of her life, but as that life passed, springs, winters, and hot summers passed, and the autumn of that life arrived, it turned out Berta was no longer fit for much. She bore what she could. She carried what she could. She gave as much of herself as she could. Humans have a tremendous gift for using and then discarding.

And sometimes, beyond the fence, a dealer is already waiting. Berta has come a long way to get here, today, to you. She’s collecting for her tomorrow. She’s collecting for life, health, and a bucket of vitamins. She’s collecting for a farrier, a vet, and to never be afraid of anything again.

We’re collecting for fat Berta—for a horse perceived as a typical slaughter horse, but who, though he doesn’t look it, has a truly gentle heart, emotions, and a keen sense of everything happening around him. We’re collecting $1 or $2.
